Sign Crazy

Pet peeve.  Those little pop-up signs, you know the ones.  They have those H shaped wire stands and you slip the sign over the to half.  Yeah, those.  While they are convenient for the political season and the weekend garage sale, the creep of usage of those signs, in my opinion, is getting a bit out of hand.  Actually signs are regulated by code in the City, it seems code enforcement and the City have decided to keep a blind eye to the proceedings.  Biggest violators?  Nah, not individual property owners.  The City, WLIC, and the Fishing Club.  Examples...currently the Fishing Club has signs for its Fish Fry around the City, including right smack dab on the grass in front of City Hall, as well as next to the monument on City property at City Hall...The Mayor, aldermen, and code enforcement officers walk right past them.  WLIC currently has a few No Zebra signs as well as Have Your Tags signs in access areas, in various stages of leaning left/right over.  And of course they put up the Show Your Sticker signs in April.

Mayor Botbyl in his vision for the City mentioned "property maintenance" as one of his priorities, saying "some properties need work".  I am assuming he means enforcement of codes as part of this, he wasn't really specific beyond that...we shall see.  In the meantime the proliferation of signs continues, it should be noted, our friends in KCMO, don't allow these type of signs on their right of way (currently, the corner of Potomac and Barry...in KCMO, is aching for a cleanup).

There is probably a happy balance to all of this, it is about time the City find it.
