In response to a Comment yesterday:
I was at a BOA meeting where Google Fiber was discussed, led by Jerry. Jerry has been negative about Fiber going back to comments he made regarding the failed municipal network in North Kansas City (very much a separate issue). Jerry feared additional costs/challenges with start up of Google Fiber based on our infrastructure. Mr Botbyl echoed the Mayor's comments. End of discussion. Of course if Botbyl has changed his mind, which is ok, he can always post his position on the blog.
FYI...how is Google Fiber doing in our neighborhood? Sign ups start right across the street from us in Wildwood West in May. Guess they don't have the problems we have.

why is google fiber so great?
I don't know that it is great or not, but they cannot enter the City without an agreement, and at this point, they aren't exactly prospecting for business...unless invited to do business in a city. Your current choices are Dish,Times Warner, ATT UVerse (East Side only), add ATT for DSL, guess it depends on how great you think they are.
Google Fiber is great because it gives you 10x the speed of TWC or more than 20x the speed of AT&T for less money. I can not fathom why WL is dragging their feet on this.
I have ATT Uverse and I'm on the Westside. Have had it for over a year.
I know many neighbors that are disappointed to see the Google lines being dug and then to find out that we would not get it. We have Time Warner with a inconsistent coverage. My husband called City Hall about this. How can we get our voices heard? Would love to know the mayor candidates plan with this technology.

Disappointed as well. As an IT worker this would help me when I work from home and is less expensive than TWC. I haven't had a lot of issues with TWC above and beyond the cost but the extra speed, HD content, and for less money makes me wonder why we didn't jump on it.
