Rude

The Official Unofficial Minutes of the WL BOA

That's putting it mildly, the rude behavior of the Board of Aldermen and the Mayor last Wednesday evening. As noted in previous post, there was a BOA Work Session on the 09 budget @ 5PM. It was to be followed by the regularly scheduled monthly BOA meeting @ 7PM. The BOA went into closed session around 6:45 PM to discuss salary related issues to the budget. As is customary, the citizens in attendance were ushered out into the hallway so the BOA and Mayor could discuss business, but not before three pizzas and soft drinks were delivered to the Town Hall for the pleasure of the BOA and Mayor. With the smell of Pizza Hut hanging in the air, 8 or so citizens waited for the start of the BOA meeting. 7:10...still in closed session, 7:20...ditto, 7:30 one citizen, let's call him Will, bailed on waiting any longer as the rest of us stood in the hallway, leaning on the WL topographic map. Just short of 7:50 PM the Town Hall doors swung open and we were allowed in. Jerry gave a rather sheepish "I'm sorry" and the BOA meeting began. Not a peep from the aldermen, guess they felt it was ok to stiff their constituents.
In the best of circumstances it is difficult to get attendance at BOA meetings. When the Mayor and Board insist on scheduling early meetings and not conducting meetings on time, it has a chilling effect on those who might want to attend. I saw a couple of faces that have not attended a BOA meeting, at least not recently. My guess is Wednesday's performance will cure them of attending another soon.
Oh yeah, if the closed session wasn't enough the for the first meeting, they went into closed session again after the BOA...no reports of dessert being served...to quote Marie Antoinette "let them eat cake"
And that my friends, is as I see it.

Wake Up people this board and mayor could care less about any of us. The real working families of the lake. The ones that are paying the tax dollars and they just think it's their own money to spend.

Forget your time that doesn't mean a thing to them. It is all about them after all.

You know Mayor Bos's former job was to look like he was working, and waste the little people's time and money! Guess he thinks thats his mayor job too.

CIG:
These guys, they don't get it," Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, said on CNN's "American Morning."

"They came to us basically saying 'we are on the critical list, and we need a respirator,' and we bail them out, and the next thing we know, we turn around and they are going out partying and spending the taxpayers' dollars. And it's kind of -- it's very upsetting."

Some time ago our WL city officials came to us and said city services were to be cut unless we voted in a tax increase. We voted it in. Since then there has be proposal after proposal for spending on several projects which have been repeatedly objected to on this blog.

THEY JUST DON"T GET IT!!

Correction:AIG

Let us remember the officials that said we had to have the tax increase or lose city services due to cuts was our previous mayor "York" not the current mayor. So the taxes were already there when Bos came on the scene. So while yes the money was needed Mr. York was the one in office when the threats came!!~~

AIG brought in a CEO two months to diligently run AIG. Mayor Bos was voted in to diligently run the City of Weatherby Lake. (Mayor York was not responsible for the city deficit - it took years of poor management to get to that point.) It is the present administration that is looking for ways to spend our hard earned tax dollars that we voted in to "save" our city. If you were to put to a vote to the WL citizens new entrances, new website, CC upgrades, new security system, and anything else you can drum up, I would like to see how far it would go with a direct WL citizens vote..

Anonymous 9:08am,

The entrance monuments are not planned to come out of your tax dollars--this will be provided for through donations. As for the CC and its improvements, many of the dollars for it were from fundraisers--the new appliances are from a donation from the Women's Club. The painting of the CC was donated by one of our residents--we only needed to pay for paint. The interior decorator that gave advice on what we did in there also volunteered her time.

In a previous blog posting:
Monument Committee: Looking to raise $400,000 to replace entrance monuments to the City. KCMO has offered $50,000 to subsidize the cost of those involved in the Barry Road project...so that reduces the amount to $350,000. Your fair share $571.

So somehow, on the average, $571 will be donated by each and every household at WL? A city bank account devoted to the project but no eventual city tax dollars?

Anonymous 9:08am, my guess is you're a city council member or close to one - wished you had said "will not come out of your tax dollars" instead of " are not planned to come out of your tax dollars".

Understand $10K+ tax dollars was spent on the CC before a budget approval. May be the CC needed it, maybe not. But when taxes are raised because city services were strained, the CC should have been the last thing on the list.

Mayor Bos has stated there is overwhelming support for the entrance signs. It would follow we should have $350,000 in the city bank account in no time without affecting our tax dollars. I personally would like to simply have the road paved in front of my house.

ditto, could we put that money toward things that really need to be done?

Personally $400000 could do a lot of good in this city. Monuments is not at the top of that list. There are plenty of cities that do not have "MONUMENTS" at their "gate" so to speak. If there are those out there so eager to give away money I'm sure there are lots of worthy causes out there that could use the money. How about Harvesters or your local clothes closet.!!
