There's Something About Mary

Funny movie, odd but funny. Speaking of Mary,

A HOY, A HOY. So starts a letter from Alderman Hoy to some West Side residents, asking for support in the upcoming election. Save your breath Mary, you've got it in the bag. But nice of you to support our postal service. For those of you who didn't get her letter (East Siders and "B" list West Siders) here are the highlights.

"When I ran two years ago, opposing a long time incumbent, I promised you one thing." What was that one thing? "I would communicate with you" Mary mentions her emails regarding BOA meetings. Here is a quote from one of her infomails to residents concerning Barry Road, "Naturally, Weatherby Lake City officials have no control over what happens. I am just informing you of the situation". (Gee, you could fire her, save $100 a month, read my blog). There you have it, don't blame me, I'm just communicating with you. She did make other promises of action, of course, during the campaign two years ago. What were they and what were the results?
  • Long range planning-Nothing to date
  • Underground utilities-Oops, millions of dollars, take a look, still above ground
  • Get grant money-$0
  • New revenue streams-See above
  • Fiscal responsibility-Spent unbudgeted funds for decorating CC
  • Roberts Rules for BOA-nope
  • Public disclosure-Refused to reveal reason for abstention vote (Robert's Rules says"Present in record for abstention") see above
  • Examine financial affairs-code words for York had financial issues, after appointment of an Audit Committee and Audit conducted by independent auditor, City passed w/flying colors, of course she already knew that.
  • Cooperate with other governmental agencies-Nary a whimper as KCMO dumps 30,000 gallons of human waste into our lake, I guess that is cooperating.
  • The City needed a purchasing policy-She found out we actually had a purchasing policy
  • Purchasing cards-Never happened
She also states in her letter "I have also made it a point to learn as much as I can about sewer issues". See last post. Wait until you see her plan for your water bill which she plans to launch at the next BOA. Why wouldn't she mention it in her letter? It will be very unpopular, with the exception of the snow bird population of WL.

I am going to vote next Tuesday. Alderman West Side, I'm going to write-in my neighbor, Dick Fickle. Nice man, great neighbor. No he doesn't know, that's not the point. Send Mary a message. Vote for your neighbor. When she sees the number of votes cast and her tally doesn't add up, well she'll figure it out. After all.

There's something about Mary.

Great idea. Write in your neighbor.

I am on the Eastside and very interested in what people think of the two write-in candidates - Bossert and Surma. The only information I have is the flyers they each put on our door. Surma seems very accomplished and community minded. Bossert though, seems to have a very impressive engineering background in city wide utilities and planning. This seems to be something we really, really need in our community considering the aging sewers and our water issue. I truly want to make an educated voting decision and would like to know what others think. Thank you for you time.

Oh dear. Seems to me there are three things one can rely on - death, taxes and Mike's jaundiced view of WL life and elected officials. Such a pity he didn't do as good a job as Mary Hoy has done when he was on the BOA. Wasn't he one of the aldermen that helped put the City into a budget crisis? Last year we had a surplus - but maybe that's wrong in Mike's book. He also neglects to mention that the BOA (not just Hoy) voted unanimously on the CC "unbudgeted" spend. In addition, the CC was re-opened by the majority of WL citizens voting with their wallets. What do we get from Mike? Snide remarks about spaghetti dinners. Maybe maintaining the City's resources is also wrong in his opinion. Maybe having pot holes and crumbling infrastructure is his idea of Heaven. To his credit, he did serve a stint on the BOA. His legacy? Police protection reduced, old and battered equipment for road repair, the Community Center closed, the threat of reduction of snow removal. It's just a shame that at that time there was not a blog for others to be so unconstructively critical. Bring something to the table other than your venomous spittle, Mike. Then maybe you'll have some credibility.

Who to vote for? - either candidate would be good for the role. My advice would be to call on each of them and have a chat, rather than rely on this blog.

9:07: A good point but information directly from the candidate will have a different perspective than those who have working knowledge of a candidate.

Anon 9:32am,

You are correct. You will get the truth from the candidate and who knows what you will get from anyone else..."working knowledge"...do not even know what that means but again, do yourself a favor and get your information directly from the candidate rather an the heavily biased "As I See It".

Sorry, but I have working knowledge - personal experience with a member of our political community who is a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde. Our family has had high stress level dealing with this Mr Hyde. So, while it is true, some things posted on As I See It is unfounded, I am glad there is a forum to voice one's opinion of their working/personal experience with those running for office.

Tea Doff has a point Mike.

Mike,

You and Paul Gross ought to move out of here if you are so unhappy. I am sure there is a BOA in some other city that could make you more comfortable.

Mike is right in his revue of all of Mary's promises that to date have not been kept. If that is 'jaundiced' to tea doff then he/she is not accepting the facts. The truth must hurt.

Sherry,

Like I said, Mike and Paul Gross ought to find a home outside of WL where they can be happy.

By the way Sherry, since you have said you are gone most of the year, how do you know that Mary has not kept most of her "promises"? Because Mike says so? Or because you know it to be true?

Keep up the good work Mike!! Whenever you hit the nail on the head, the crying starts. Tea Doff needs to take a reading class. If it would read the official minutes, it would find out you didn't do anything it is blaming you for. You are right on target with Mary - all hot air and NO do. Since I attend meetings regularily, I know what Mike did and what Mary has done. Keep up the good work Mike!!

TD and anon 4/3 1016P.... I may be gone a lot but I am an informed voter, and I know what ahoy put in print 2 years ago is exactly as Mike described it. No need to put Mike and Gross in the same boat. Put yourselves in the boat with Gross and all of you sail over the spillway together. AHoy!!!
