Gremlins and the Backwoods
I'm a road warrior this week, somewhere in the woods in KY an hour south of Cincinnati...business retreat. Of course first thing Monday morning my computer decided to go on retreat...just back on the net late last night. Hopefully back to posting today after wading through way too many emails that have stacked up.

Mike-
We are so glad your back online. Life just isn't the same without your blogs.
Do you know when the budget meeting to finalize the budget for the city is scheduled? Date? Time? It is open session also right?
Maybe this time they will buy pizza for all who attends! HAHAHA
Mike, do you know what plans or schedule there is for repaving some of our streets? Like another comment, our street is not looking so good.
Not sure when this was installed but noticed a nice big flag pole at Birmingham Park. How was this paid for? I read somewhere our parks are funded or partially funded by grants. Just curious how our parks figure into the overall city budget.
I'll take a whack at all three comments.
* I believe the City budget hearing is the 20th, I checked the web site this morning and the meeting is not posted, I will update on Monday if not sooner.
*George and Vic are completing a five year plan for roads, they do have a tentative plan for next year. As I run around the City (literally) we do have streets that will not weather will through the winter. I encourage you to pick up the phone and chat with your aldermen about your street. I do have concerns about funding for raods beyond the next two years. The bond money will be spent and our share of county money will not sustain a long range plan...at least that is my view.
*The flag pole is nice and is part of the enhancements provided by the Park Board. If you look at the tax bill recently received you will see a line for the Parks. The Park Board maintains their own budget as a subdivision of the City. They are autonomous, their funds cannot be used for anything but parks, cannot be accessed by the Mayor or the BOA. Members of the Park Board are nominated by the Mayor and appointed by the BOA, for terms. The Park Board, led by President Marvin Springer, has been exceptionally good at obtaining matching grants from Platte County. The result is, in my opinion, a first class park network for a city our size. A tip of the hat to Marvin and his crew. The Park Board meets at City Hall in an open meeting to the public on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
It amazes me how some people pick on spelling, yet when Mike mispells seveal words in the same messages, THERE IS NO COMPLAINT. Just interesting.
"mispells" is actually "misspells"
and
"seveal" is actually "several"
Thank you. I proved my point. The 2 words I spelled incorrectly were identified, however nobody noticed the words spelled wrong by Mike. I had 2 spelling errors on purpose to prove myself, and it worked!!LOL
Why cant we all just get along?
The prior bloggers should re -read Weatherby Lake Living .
"Often things are never as they appear. We should be careful not to judge a situation, or a person, because there usually is a lot more than we know or see, or has yet to unfold. What may seem like a bad thing about a neighbor(like working against our Lake with outside interests and dividing everyone like a cancer) may in fact be a very good thing"
Kumbaya or is it Kum Ba Yah?
