Eternal Rest @ WL

Ok, the marijuana idea was a bit goofy (although a number of states have laws similar to Cliff Village, MO). Anyway, a study just published on Feb 9th by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center revealed a higher incidence in testicular cancer for male marijuana users (seriously). So WLIC leadership rest easy, your office space at City Hall is safe.

So what other revenue ideas are there? Here's suggestion #2, not mine, but submitted by a blogite. As you know, the City is the owner of the cemetery of of East Side Drive. Marge Stockwell and the Historical Committee have done a fine job of restoring and maintaining the graveyard. I haven't talked with Marge, but I am assuming we have at least a few plots that are "vacant". Why not fill em up? If your preference is the incinerator route, a small mausoleum could be built so your ashes might be placed in your very own cubby hole. Using the arena/stadium approach the City could charge a license fee to reserve your spot, followed by a burial fee and perpetual maintenance fee. No added cost there to the City because we already have the Public Works crew on the payroll, I'm sure George and Bennie could make quick work of digging a 6 foot deep trench.

I know the idea isn't perfect. First of all, first tier residents might balk at being buried on the second tier (although I think a glimpse of the lake is available during winter months). There would have to be a balance of 1st and 2nd tier plots for sure and of course the WLIC approach to fees would have to be used with the 1st tier multiplier. That should help with keeping this whole thing out of the courts, Judge Lee Hull has his hands full with WLIC stuff. Estimated revenue to the City? $50,000 give or take a couple of grand.

What do you think? I know Jerry is fond of saying "Life is great at Weatherby Lake". Why not amend it a bit to: "Life and Death are great at Weatherby Lake"

Let us pray.

We can pray but it probably wont help to keep us out of the courts.

Any cause imagined or created would be a terrible thing to waste ,especially if it can be used to open a divide between 1st and 2nd tiers.

Those who enable and follow along are already at eternal rest.

In other words they are dead from the neck up.

Perhaps the Garden club could take on Perpetual Care.

After becoming aware of the small cemetery we have, I called the city about burial. There is no provision for it but it truly was a serious inquiry. We love Weatherby Lake and hope to live and die here. I think people would be surprised how many people would take the city up on it if they could be buried there.

I saw the blog about opening a business - like a Quik Trip. That isn't a bad idea. Understood your comment about police coverage but why, in the long run, should that be a deterrent. At least do a feasibility study.

Many many years ago there was a push to turn Bob Pease's property into a WLIC community club. (To be financed by Lance Welch.) In it would have been a gym/workout center and a food/bar area. It was adamantly fought by the adjoining residents and was voted down. Why couldn't we consider that for the community center?

Why not a seasonal food stand at C Point?

Offer C point as a wedding venue.

With all these committees. . . a committee exploring income producing avenues could be highly beneficial.

2/12 10:41....Why not promote business development in Weatherby (Quick Trip)?.........take a look at the North Oak corridor from VIvion up to Barry. Haphazard business zoning in what originally was very much a residential area. That's why. We don't have an infrastructure to ensure proper execution. That's why. Just my opinion. I do however, like your thoughts on the Community Center.

Having grown up in Gladstone, I know N Oak inside and out. I remember when N Oak was two lanes and residential. It was inevitable with the growth of Gladstone, N Oak would become zoned business. I don't think Gladstone is a reasonable comparison to Weatherby Lake. Weatherby Lake may not be geared for a business like a Quick Trip but it wouldn't hurt to do a viability study on possible business development.

What about a Casino on C point?

No more taxes ! Instead we would all get a rebate like Alaska residents get

I think a floating casino anchored to C Point is an excellent idea. If you haven't noticed, Riverside is considering paying the sewer bill for their residents, they are literally swimming in cash from the Argosy...but then we already have had Poker at the CC, why not convert it to a casino? I feel sure it (the property) belonged to a native American tribe at one time...so we could have a casino just like downtown KCK.

All this could never happen without a treaty between the WLIC , Chief "running up your legal bill" and Kernel Kuster

Isn't there some Missouri rule casinos have to be on a river or water? Seems to me WL would fit the bill. The more people start talking about looking into stuff like this, someone could come up with an idea that might bring more income in to WL.

We might want to set aside some ground on the second tier as a monument or for the burial grounds for of Neighbors for Change.

Sooner or later they will get the recognition they deserve

Hurry up and erect the monument to " Chief running up legal bills" or else we will wind up in court facing Indian human rights violations
