Did You Notice?

Parkville has four Aldermen spots up for election in April, all four are uncontested with the incumbents filing for re-election. Interesting in that Parkville has been a hot bed of issues in the past year.

An employee of the Platte County collector's office was charged with stealing $16,000 of cash payments at the Platte County South Annex. Platte County Prosecutor Zahnd says the woman used the money to gamble at casinos. The woman is Secretary of the Platte County Republican Central Committee and president of the Platte County Federated Republican Women's club(Saturday's Star).

My guess her fellow employees are stunned and will attest to her being a "nice person". Go figure.

One way of looking at it: Some (not all) like to look at city council as a social club, a part-time hobby or some prestigious line to put on their resume. When it gets tough they take exception because it's not cool anymore.

I'm not pro or con Mayor Bos. Just ruminating. He clearly has noteworthy experience to have become a CFO. Is he truly a detriment to our city? With that kind of background, wouldn't he still be an tremendous asset? I don't know about Mayor York but I got the impression previous mayors were sort of running our city finances to the ground. Is he really at our city's helm doing all sorts of bad things? Just thoughts.

Typical

"I don't know about Mayor York"

"I got the impression "

"Sort of "

"running our city finances to the ground"

A good way to get votes from people like you who admit they dont know and decide on things based on impressions is to create "impressions"

"Impressions" about money work best with people like you.

From 2:57 to 4:14. You obviously have a polluted mind and probably one of many sowing seeds of conflict. The intention was stating Mayor Bos may well (or may not) be doing our city a good turn based on his experience and facing some of the past financial troubles our city has had resulting in a tax increase. The question (not statement) is do we really know he is a detriment to our city. "Impression" by definition is "an effect, image, or feeling retained as a consequence of experience." "I don't know about Mayor York" is a simple statement - nothing more. "Sort of" can also be interchanged "somewhat", "more or less" or "rather". That statement made based on impression (consequence of experience) and the recent intense push for increasing our taxes. Interesting 4:14 you focus on one sentence instead of the whole blog. So why don't you get your mind out of the gutter, stop trying to detect hidden meaning and post something worthwhile.

To 1/29 10:09 If you are trying to say that Mayor York was doing something wrong and blame him for raising our taxes (remember, he put it on the ballot, and the majority voted yes)- then answer this question - if we didn't need this money, why didn't Mayor Bos lower our taxes once he got into office. If you compare your tax bills from 2008 to 2007, in fact Mayor Bos RAISED your City taxes. Pull out your bills and take a look. I went to the meetings during the tax increase issue and I feel Mayor York was trying to stabilize our City financial affairs. He had the financial problems dumped on him. Did you read his accomplishment letter during the last campaign? I'll take a 'small businessman' running our government any day over a 'corporate bigwig'.

To 2:57.....i was as the meeting where the accounting firm reported the state of our financial audit -- while technically reported during Bos term, the results were based on financial activities during York tenure.

The accounting firm said the books were "some of the best books I've ever seen". If I hadn't heard it with my own ears, and rather relied on hearsay, I most surely wouldn't have believed it.

Agreement with project priorities aside, it seemed clear to me that he was capable of the financial side.

It does pay to attend meetings. You'd be amazed at what you hear.

And that audit firm only did a management audit, not a financial audit. This was also brought out at the city council meetings.

11:24. Perplexing how you read the statement "I don't know about Mayor York" and reinterpret its meaning into Mayor York was the reason and cause for raising taxes. Regardless, factual information is far more productive than stupid testimonials accusing Mayor York of deviously shredding papers. As far as I can tell, by reading these blogs (because I didn't know Mayor York), he is good man and was a good mayor. I will restate the questions. Is Mayor Bos presently a detriment to our city? Is Mayor Bos business experience far more valuable to us to as a city that it can overshadow his present legal issues? We will have to answer that in a year. Looks to me like some of you who know Alan York should encourage him to run again for mayor.

God help us if we ever end up with York as Mayor again! Mayor Bos is doing a fantastic job. I do believe our city is better off because of him. Thank you Jerry!

To 8:36 AM, can you be specific on why you think Mayor Bos is doing a fantastic job? Can you be specific on why Mayor York would not?

Anonymous said...

yes I can.

To anon 8:00....as i understood it the "management audit" also included a "financial audit." That was brought out also.

Anonymous said...

you misunderstood.

You probably were not at the meeting where the audit firm gave a presentation. they most clearly performed a financial audit as part of the management audit. The management audit actually included more. Get your facts straight.
