We and No

The Official Unofficial Minutes of the Weatherby Lake BOA
March 2nd

I was away on business but had my cub reporter ACE at the meeting as well as information from others who attended the meeting.

Vote on CC manager contract, Shawna Payne passes, 3 to 1. Alderman Bossert was in attendance so when the contract was brought up for vote again it passed. As you recall it failed last month because of Mary's NO vote (without explanation). Alderman Finn pressed Ms Hoy to explain her No vote, Mary replied, "because of the amount of the increase was 10%." Massive, huh? Excessive. huh? When was the last time Payne got an increase? She hasn't...ever. Has the use of the CC increased? Over the past year, yes. How much are we talking about? $37.50 a month. How did Mary report this in her meeting notes?

"We approved a contract with Shauna Payne to manage the Community Center. Ivoted no on this contract because I felt the increase of 10% excessive."

Close, They approved the contract...She voted No.

good for mary? pretty stupid in my book. too cheap to give someone a $35 raise - particularly when they've done a superb job. shows marys true colors.

Have you rented from her? Not a good experience. It is unprecedented to give someone a 10% raise in this economy. A lot of people are not getting raises and have not in several years. She is no different from them.

The other city employees, office staff, public works, police received raises this year, why would Mary only deny Ms. Payne a $35/month increase, when the others received much more?
Is there a reason Mary only denied Payne?
If not a good experience in renting, why not speak to the city so they can inform Ms. Payne so that improvements can be implemented? If Payne rents to 500 persons, and gets 5 complaints, is that reason to deny a $35/month increase?

I have rented from Shawna and so have friends. We have not had any bad experiences. No different than when we have rented other places. I have found in life that when you treat people with respect and be polite they often treat you the same. I also would normally think a 10% raise sounds high, but if it is only $35 I can't see that its worth getting worked up for. It seems like Shawna has done a real good job renting out the community center. I think that should be rewarded.
