Sun City

Arizona has nothing on WL
Follow this...

Pat Botbyl retired (his words) from his post as Mayor in Hawthorne, NJ and shortly after moved to WL (http://www.hawthornenj.org/PDF/Minutes_Agendas/08CouncilMinutes/coun%20mins.08.06.08.pdf) page 8.  He assumes a C level position at the VFW in KCMO.

WL resident Larry Maher retires from his executive position at the VFW and shortly thereafter is appointed Municipal Judge by Mayor Jerry Bos.  Maher then ran for judge and was elected for that spot at the next election.

Jerry, as we all know, retired from a C level position at KC based Dairy Farmers of America.  Shortly thereafter he ran for and was elected Mayor (x3).

Jerry is listed on Botbyl's January Committee Disclosure Report as the only donor other than Botbyl himself.  Jerry donated $500 to Botbyl's campaign.

See, what goes around comes around?  Pat-Larry-Jerry-Pat

cozy, and I thought Botbyl was an outsider.

Botbyl was brought to Kansas City to work for the VFW by Larry Maher, while Larry was the CEO of VFW.

Is there a difference between resigning and retiring?

It is time to get rid of the Bos era of stupid entry monuments, outrageous water/sewer rate increases, and a general lack of leadership of our Lake Community. York is not tied to Bos and it appears Botbyl is the chosen one. I'm voting for York.

Doesn't sound like many of you have spoken directly to Botbyl. I think he's done a decent job of sharing his vision and priorities for the lake. Providing written materials and discussions of his core agenda. Haven't heard word one from York. His signs just up this week. Doesn't seem like good planning nor leadership to me.

I'm not necessarily a huge proponent of Bos either. But suggesting Botbyl is just following in Bos' footsteps makes it clear to me that you haven't taken the time to read up on his agenda nor issues.

And Maher was a short-term appointment because of Roper's resignation. Didn't see anyone else step up to the plate when the next election rolled around. Cozy? Doubt it. As we've seen over and over again, just a lack of people willing to put their hat in the game.

Botbyl's agenda sounds suspiciously generic and not very specific. What has he done as an alderman during the past year?

Agree with 433, Botbyl has been an alderman for a year, haven't heard a peep out of him, now he wants to retire from being an alderman and become mayor.

Same question could be asked of Stevenson and Clark and most importantly, York. And they've been lake residents much longer. What' s is York's agenda? What has he been doing? I heard him speak. Couldn't find one. Hasn't really had his finger on the pulse lately. I would imagine that Botbyl was learning the municipal ropes, analyzing where he can contribute and polling the community for areas to address. If you ask me, that's better than jumping into a seat and doing things just to get noticed.
