Call KCMO

That's the advice Alderman Mary Hoy gives Westsiders regarding the closure of Potomac. This from her email:
"If you remain concerned and frustrated, you might continue to write or call the Kansas City Councilmen."

Mary Hoy

Good advice, call someone else. The general malaise by the BOA and Mayor regarding the Barry Road project is stunning to say the least. Jerry's monthly updates as of late are basically "nothing to report". The BOA spent more time, much more time, discussing entrances and all the fluff. Maybe we should have a town hall meeting, ala health care. If you live on Potomac or Hillside you should be upset..."frustrated". Dr Mary has the prescription for you, take to aspirin and call KCMO in the morning.

Typical from the Hoy....opens her mouth......promises everything....brain starts functioning......reality becomes apparent....blame everyone else. WL residents....wake up before you put her in the Mayor's Office!!!

Are there any PACs or Corporate Lobbying firms that can spread disinformation and organize outraged partisan citizens and political operatives for us ?
It seems to be working on health care.....Same story locally... Our politicians are not action oriented and doing nothing but spending money we dont have on things we dont need!!!!At the same time ignoring the major problem on Barry Road and accepting the status quo.

Call KCMO is a subtle admission by someone who understands they are powerless and irrelevant.

I give Mary Hoy a lot of credit for letting her constituents know about the closings; did anyone else on the BOA do that? KCMO are the ones that are to blame on the Barry Road delays and she was right to point out that you should call them to complain about their inadequacies!!!

Why crank on the one person on the BOA who seems to be letting people know what is going on?

By the way, speaking of campaign promises, where IS that dog park Tanya Finn promised???

I'm not a fan by any means of the BOA but short of some sort of lawsuit, what exactly can the BOA do?

What they can want to do is spend private money on monuments and plan socials. Do we really need a dog park too?

What they cant do is run the community center without losing money ,deliver a promised independent audit of our finances and most important protect our lake from KCMO

We might want to or need to depend on private generosity and donations to remove all the silt from the lake

Of course donating to pay for it like every thing else will be voluntary including adhering to environmental best practices and law in our watershed

Who knows if we need a dog park? Tanya Finn promised it in her campaign for her 2nd term AND she said she already had raised the money for it. I am just asking "where is it"?

As for the monuments I fail to understand where all the complaints are coming from. If you do not want to support the new entrance monuments; then don't! By the way, it is not the BOA that is spending time on this, rather, it is a committee that has been assigned to look into it, determine feasibility and raise the money for it. Additionally, so far as I can tell, and contrary to this blog, there have been NO price tags or even guesses as to what this will cost. How do I know that? Well...folks, you have to have a final design before you can know what it will cost! To date, as I understand the signs and the information coming out, they are still looking at design concepts...yes, I said concepts!!!

Fair enough question 7:42am. regarding the dog park. Though in my opinion, I'm glad it's fallen lower on the priority list.

I also appreciate Mary's updates. Tho action is more preferable.

Regarding committee vs. BOA and spending. Committee or BOA, the manpower assigned to gathering information takes away from other more important priorities. And ultimately, the BOA will need to spend extensive time considering/evaluating the new creative options. While not huge amounts, money HAS been spent to get the preliminary CONCEPTS.

Again, where are the priorities? That money should have been spent on REALITIES -- i.e., independent engineering counsel on whether KCMO's designs are adequate on Barry Road and HIllside which is a City issue, not an improvement company issue. Take a quick drive over there and you can clearly see/smell/wallow in the disaster area that it has become. Forget an entrance at Hillside. Forget the bridge. If the Hillside project/pipe puts as much water through as it seems like it will, we won't need a bridge anymore. We'll be able to drive across the North Cove mud.

8:21am,
This is where I think you are misinformed. When I attend BOA meetings, I do not hear them spend a lot of time on Entrance Monuments. Instead, they seem to spend their time on real city issues like streets, budgets, sewer repairs and maintenance and yes, the Barry Road project and many more. Attend a meeting and perhaps you will feel differently.

The entrance project is not a priority to our city officials as far as I can tell. Ask Mayor Bos where it ranks and I think he would be glad to tell you where his priorities are and this would probably not even make his list. I have never heard anyone say the entrance monuments are a priority to the BOA. The time that is spent on this is by residents of our city who care about this and who want to invest time looking into it.
Volunteerism is what is making this happen and again, they are doing this because they believe in the project. While I cannot speak for all of the volunteers on that committee, I would imagine they may not be interested in other projects or committees. Just ask them.

Found this with a search;
This little bridge is a pretty critical piece of the infrastructure.

From;

For information about the Rush Creek Bridge and Barry Road construction project, contact Sean Demory, communications specialist for the Capital Improvements Management Office, (816) 513-0059.

Maybe a kind letter to mayor@kcmo.org would also help speed things up.

There are two safety issues with the bridge being closed that I can see. Increased traffic is a danger to kids and pedestrians in Copper Creek and Fire and Ambulance dispatching to addresses around the detour area. I recently had stay on the phone with the dispatcher to guide an ambulance to our house.

Of course the longer it takes to finish the bridge the more mud they get to dump in our lake. So we got that going for us.

How about some officials screaming and making noise to speed this up. It's getting ridiculous.
