Election Update

The time for filing for municipal elections (April 5th) has passed and the WL results are:

East Ward
Dave Folkedahl

West Ward
Mary Hoy

Alderman Bossert did not file for reelection, so both Folkedahl and Hoy are running unopposed.  There is always the possibility of a write-in candidate, my guess that is highly unlikely.  I'm going to offer to Mr Folkedahl and Ms Hoy the opportunity to host a post for a day on the blog if they choose.  I do not know if there will be a candidates forum, my belief is there will not be one because of the lack of races in either Ward.
One benefit is there might be fewer "Vote For" yard signs for the Police to monitor.  Now if we can just convince the KCMO Earnings Tax folks we don't vote on that issue her at WL...that would be nice.

They read most of the Constitution in Congress. Now if we could only get people to read it and learn about it.

This guy teaches it in an amazing way. Enjoy.

I think people need to take a close look at what the mayor is proposing in changing our trash service. I like our trash service. I like it because we don’t have to adhere to a standardized container, we can put out odds and ends, and we have a wide berth in what we can put out. From what I understand, the mayor is looking at using Kansas City’s service. My daughter has, from time to time, dropped something by because Kansas City will not take it. She can only put out two bags at a time. There are many restrictions. Is that what we want?

Seems like a lot of "fixin it when it ain't broke" going on.

The mayor also wants to bill our trash pick up on our water bill.

The only reason I can see that our government wants to get involved in our gargage pickup is that they are going to get something out of it. Could it be that the city will profit from this at the expense and freedom of its citizens? I agree! It aint broke so don't fix it. Why are we citizens not consulted about something that will affect everyone one of us in a big way?

6:43 - would it do any good?

On issues such as this garbage pickup, aren't our aldermen supposed to represent the people in their ward at these meetings. Where are they? I have never been contacted or polled by an alderman since living here several years. Never heard from one. What is their job? Are they being paid a salary? If so what for? Do they just go along to get along?

Our major might be looking at lowering our trash service costs but it sure smells of something not right. Smells a little like someone is aligning themselves with KC. Sure like to be wrong on this one. Our costs might be lower but you get what you pay for. Have been there and it is a real hassle trying to fit a week's worth of family trash into two bags.

Aligning with KC? Lets see, KC handles our sewer, if there is a spill its their fault, are we considering using their fire protection, now their garbage pick up? What else are we dependent on KC for? We are surrounded by KC. Is an anex next? Strange that the mayor is worried about the cost of our garbage pick up, that it costs too much. What business is it of the city's anyway? How about informing us of all the details first. How much are we going to save? What's the difference in the service? Lets see the numbers! Is this going to burdon our existing secretarial help? Will is cost us another office person to manage the billing etc? Lets just keep the city government's stick little fingers out of this and leave well enough alone!

I was thinking about the annex issue too. I remember years back Houston Lake was battling that too. Never say never.

Some people don’t like the looks of the array of trash put out. Standardizing our trash, I guess, will make everything look neater. There is this push for expensive entrance signs. And popping up all over are fancy black street signs with rumor they cost $1500 each. Seems there is a group attempting to make Weatherby Lake classier. So what is next, standardized mailboxes? Burying the electrical lines?
Don’t think our community has the income structure to support some of this things.

We have a unique community. Don't make this community something it doesn't want to be.

Those folks who don't like the looks of the array of trash put out need to get over it. If these obviously few folks can get their way on this where will they stick their snobby little noses next. This is an example of how the elite get away with imposing their will on the peasants.
