Happy As A Clam

Did you read your latest WLIC info mailing? Some good stuff. If you didn't read carefully you might want to take a closer gander (oh, I guess I shouldn't even mention a goose?).

  • RoboBob will be calling you soon as a test. You might want to insure Bob has the right number.
  • Stream Team recruits on March 6th @10 @ City Hall.
  • C-Point renovation @ www.wlic.org with a comment page
  • Rules and Regs changes
  • Zebra update
All the news that is fit to print right? Almost. 2 months ago the board recognized there has been a communication "gap" regarding the sewage spill last year. WLIC Board member Jim Miller repeated the sentiment at a BOA meeting. I must have missed the communication, because there has literally been nothing, including this last mailing. Curiously in the Zebra communication this bullet point was included to justify the prevention procedures. Zebra mussels can:
  • "reduce property values and negatively impact the economies of the communities which depend on the water".
After all the negative press/news exposure on the last spill I think we might already be there. Are you confident the WLIC and BOA are doing everything possible to thwart the next spill? Why would both boards not communicate with the members/citizens to indicate they are on the job? Don't know, why don't you ask?

Seems like the Catch 22 of a small volunteer management structure.

Communication often leads to people creating too many valid AND invalid roadblocks so that nothing gets done. We don't have the broad/deep org chart to manage the internal and external inputs. Subsequently, the desire to volunteer goes down the crapper because "we just can't get anything done. So, why bother?".

No communication leads to dissatisfaction and mistrust.

I don't have any answers, and am frustrated too. But, I do recognize that our society has come accustomed to information being "pushed" to them, rather than seeking it out. Truth is, the answers to your questions are out there, you just need to go get them yourself. The meetings are monthly. Next one is March 15th, 7pm.

Oh Catch 22, that would be WLIC. City BOA has a meeting sooner than that. Maybe boss has some new 'communication' from the funk. Probably not. What say BOA?
