It Would Be Nice

From email: (Not WLIC)
09AE-CV02560 - WEATHERBY LAKE IMPROV CO V DANIEL COSTELLO
09/21/2009 Docket Entry: Hearing Continued/Rescheduled
Text: Plaintiff appears by Joseph Ennett and by attorneys, Luke Demaree and James Kessinger. Defendant appears not. Cause is continued by the Court to October 2, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. for hearing on Plaintiff's Motion for Service Fees and Defendant's Motion to Quash Purported Service of Process. (sjj)

When is the last time you heard from the leadership @ WLIC? At least the Mayor puts a blurb in the WLL. At one time WLIC used to have a page in the newsletter (or an insert). I know the current directors have the attitude if members can't get to the monthly meetings, tough beans. It would be nice to hear from them on occasion...wouldn't it?

Mike,

For the first time ever you have said something that makes sense! Why don't you just follow-up on this for us and tell us what the WLIC board says???

The WLIC doesn't want us to know what they are doing. I've seen how they treat residents who ask questions.

Yeah, I would take Rick Noble back in a heart beat.

Right or wrong, my guess is that you won't see any communications movement quick enough to satisfy your bloggers.

Encourage all to attend the NOVEMBER 10th annual meeting as a forum to ask their questions. It's a little over a month away -- plenty of time to clear it on calendars. Making the effort to attend at least one meeting a year shouldn't be too much to ask. Past meetings demo that many don't feel it's important.

I too would like more proactive ongoing communications on the part of the WLIC, but I also think my attendance at this specific meeting is just as important.

It's very simple how WLIC works. They make the decisions, we pay the bill! So don't make any waves!

5:32, that's overly simplistic and not very insightful...you obviously don't know how it really works and hard your neighbors who volunteer for the board work to keep this place going. it's easier to just throw a comment like that out there.

Just a question...does anyone know how the WLIC decided to buy the property in K-cove where they placed a sea wall and numerous WLIC docks they now rent? In other words, I thought they had to get a vote of the members to buy property. As I understand it, this property was purchased from an individual who had included that land with the sale of his home. After the WLIC bought the land, his house went off the market. Any insights?

To 12:08 pm: .I believe it was 2-3 years ago there was a vote at the annual meeting to give the Board the right to buy and sell land on behalf of the membership. It was very much passionately positioned by the speakers at that meeting that it was needed for the Peret property (to purchase and quickly turn around and sell it when the retention pond was completed). Meaning, not have to wait another whole year (annual meeting) to vote , or to call a special meeting. Unfortunately, it was used for more than that. The voting ballot did not specifically say relative to the Peret property. Lesson learned. It's important to attend the annual meetings, and it's important to voice your concerns re: the, or lack there of, fine print.

If you dont like the way WLIC runs then please respond to the call for directors

State your case and run for election

Wow! The fact that the WLIC can purchase any property without the membership approval is unbelievable. I do attend the meetings but do not remember this vote. I do remember they asked us to vote for them purchasing the bean field whenever the price was right so that they would not have to go back to the members and miss the good price (I think it was the bean field) but that was specific to that property not an open checkbook to buy anthing they want! It was all positioned that they were trying to protect the lake but this purchase in K-cove does not seem to be a matter of protecting the lake...just owning land and making money (after the loan is paid off I guess). I think this should be brought up and discussed at the meeting in November and I think we should stop it if it is in effect.

Wow! there are still Perry Mason Zombies and Proxy Givers out there!
Even now after the real truth is out we still have people who still believe all WLIC boards are out to screw us

Anonymous said...

I do not know what you are talking about. The suggestion on the table is to understand what they have the right to do without our vote and what they do not. This does not mean I think they are out to screw us, that I think I am a Perry Mason, etc. I just think we all ought to understand and agree or disagree to what their decision-making power is or is not.

I know you dont know

They board is not "they " it is we!
Dont give up your membership in neighbors for change just yet.

It was not a suggestion but statements like "just owning land and making money (after the loan is paid off I guess)" that shows ignorance and lack of understanding and appreciation for WLIC board service
People like you spread half truths and misrepresentation of fact like silt and sewage is being spread

If the board is NOT THEY and instead "WE" then why don't more people on this blog, including Mike, feel more plugged in? If it is WE and not THEY, then why do we not know how WE can buy property without the membership's vote or knowledge?

Mike is not often right on this blog but his point about lack of communication is on the money. The board needs to tell us what they are deciding for US; especially if they are not going to bring us in to the decision-making...at least tell us and explain to us what you are doing and why.

I just don’t get the comments of “they this” and “they that”. The board members are our neighbors trying to what’s best for the community at large of which we are all equal owners.
Some talk about it like it’s some out of town entity that’s trying to make money off us and only look out for their interests

Anonymous said...

And I agree with you on that point. In fact the same can be said about our city council and Mayor. They are also our neighbors and one of us and are trying the best they can to do what is best for this city. Yet, I seem to hear a lot of slamming of them in this blog.

Eeryone who serves on either board knows what it is like to feel unappreicated for all of the hard work they do to carry the ball for the rest of us who sit and only complain. I am not complaining about the WLIC board in what they do...only in what they do not do which is to simply communicate.

I see your role is to make sure that the comments are fair and balanced

10/8 1:21 to 1:28...... I was mistaken in saying that the vote was for Peret. I think you're right. It was the bean field. Same vote, different property. But what I'm rather sure of is that the ballot did not specifically say the bean field, but the verbal discussion pointed it as such. The passage of that specific prop is what I was referring to. Sorry for the error.

What is your point

Did the WLIC buy something without approval from the membership or not

Anonymous said...

That is the question on the table...did they buy the K-Cove property after getting approval of the membership? Does anybody know? Is it true we gave them a blank check book and they can buy whatever they want and whenever they want without the approval of the membership? Just trying to clarify.

Anonymous said...

My point is, that we voted YES to allow the WLIC to buy and sell property on our behalf. The proposal did not say "bean field", it "did not say "peret", and i don't believe it said "just this one time", so as far as I'm concerned, by omission of any limits to that proposition, no they did not buy anything without the membership's approval.

If you go to the annual meeting and ask these important questions, you will find that the board will have plenty of allies in attendance to boo and hiss at you when you speak. The WLIC just wants two things from us -- to mind our own business and write the check.
