The Official Unofficial Minutes of the WL BOA
April 1

During Public Comments:

Question for the Mayor The agenda does not indicate a report from the Entrance Advisory Group Committee: (EAG).  Will there be a report from the EAG?
Answer: No
Question:  The Financial Report offered to the public in attendance does not have revenues for the EAG.
Answer:  The full financials which the aldermen have indicates around $20,000 in revenue in the EAG account.

So, in Jerry's last BOA meeting (the new Mayor will take over at the May meeting) his summary of current action by the EAG is "no".  The single largest city project since the water tower languishes, no apparent leadership, no vision for the future or at least it has not been shared with the citizens.  Project dead?  Let's just say it is on life support.  Lots of lessons to be learned.  In the meantime the "retro" entrances @ Potomac, West Side,  & Kerns will have to do.  At least keep the weeds down, right?

Who is on the EAG?

I am more worried about roads than fluff. We walk quite a bit, have your really looked at the general conditions of the roads and shoulders?

Have never understood the problem people have with the entrance monuments. Funded by private donations and not a penny out of my pocket or the majority of WL. Was perfectly happy with the previous signs but bottom line we ended up with nice entrance signs. So what's the complaint?

Would like to note - was never directly contacted by EAG for a donation. If it weren't for this blog would not have a clue what was going on. If EAG had sent out a mass mailing detailing their purpose and soliciting funds, wondered if they would have received additional monies.

9:24. They sent a mass mailing at the very beginning.

The money for the most part has been private (KCMO put $50,000 + "seed money by WL), but...it is a city project because Bos and company wanted to get a tax deduction for their "donations", only possible if the money were given to the city for the purpose of monuments. The City is left holding the bag, depending on the EAG to raise the funds...and you see the result of that.

Fund raising? 9:20, you must not be a high roller, because that is/was their target. They were not after the $50 donations. For something that was boasted as increasing all of our property values (that was propagated early on), it has been quite an odyssey.

Don't understand how a donation to the EAG and getting a tax deduction is a conflict of interest or a problem.

What is the city holding the bag on? Unfinished monuments/signs? Does the city owe monies on the present monuments/signs?

49 cent stamp, a little elbow grease and a $10-$25-$50-$100 donation is better than doing nothing at all. How long has this been going on, 3 -4 yrs? A once a year solicitation would not have been unreasonable. Surely would have resulted in a few thousand dollars.

Not too long ago we were asked to donate to a campaign. If they hadn't asked directly, we wouldn't have given.

Understand the part about targeting the so called high rollers but there are very private people here with money. Targeting the "in" crowd was a easy way of doing it.

Agree, the campaign could have been better managed.

Yes, the campaign could have been better managed. Look at the meeting minutes of the committee -- if you can find them. It was called a "whisper campaign" at one point. That says it all.
