Today marks one year of weatherbylakeasiseeit with just about 19,000 "hits" (I didn't start the counter until almost a month into it). It has been fun, thanks for your comments and dropping in. We went to the WLIC Icebreaker and someone asked if I could edit or prevent comments from appearing. Answer, I could but I haven't. A couple of times I came close to pulling the plug, but resisted.
Quite a few things have happened in our community over the past year, the election last April, Barry Road and all of the things in between. Virtually never a dull moment, the City and WLIC provide plenty of topics to blog. And so it goes, where (and when) it stops, nobody knows!

The Park Board is hosting a "Music in the Park" series this summer at Cristhaven Park. Four Friday nights, 7-9PM.

Rain dates will be the following Friday if necessary. The BOA passed a resolution of commendation to the Park Board and in particular Gene Roberts who shepherded the idea along.
Speaking of Park Board, a couple of previous posts questioned the relationship of the Park Board to the City and BOA. Members of the Park Board are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the BOA. The Park Board is funded by a separate tax levy which is controlled by the Park Board. The Park Board was established by Missouri state statute, making it an independent board. The City/BOA may not have access, instruct or interfere with the use of the funds of the Board. It is not like the boards and commissions that are appointed and confirmed by the Mayor/BOA. Administrations come and go, many of the Park Board members have been on the Board long before any of the current Mayor or BOA thought about serving the City. Some people think, some people beat their gums, others do. My congratulations to the Park Board for what they do, volunteer to keep some of the finest green space in the Northland in excellent shape. How much to the members of the Park Board get paid? Monetary, phone credits, etc..??
There hasn't been any attack comments posted about the BOA lately. Have some theories but not 100% sure on why. Could it be people are semi-happy the way things are going? Hope so.
The Park Board members are not paid, just like other board and commission members in the City. No perks, just the opportunity to serve the community. I may take the time to list who is paid in the City and how much. For instance, the Mayor is paid $600 a month and paid mileage for city business when using his car. BOA (aldermen) are paid $100 a month and can be reimbursed for mileage as well.
