Annexation

Alderman Hoy would like to annex property currently owned by KCMO.  The relocation of Amity to meet East Side Drive leaves KCMO with a piece of property just west of the proposed intersection to the WLIC owned "bean field".  Hoy is concerned with the potential use of the property which includes a possible QuickTrip-like convenience store, according to Mary. (Not sure of the current zoning of the property).  City Attorney John commented on the difficulty of gaining the position to annex in light of KCMOs unwillingness to de-annex any property they hold, historically they have never done this.  Mary gave the example of WLIC's purchase of the bean field as a model for the City to follow.  One small problem Alderman Hoy failed to address in her pipe dream...money.  Even if all of the other hurdles could be overcome the City is in no position to make a purchase and the mood of the taxpayers might not be there for votes to take on more debt.

I personally am so SICK of everyone wanting to BUY property to keep this or that from happening. Not that it isn't a good idea in theory but just look at the intersection of Barry and Amity that we just spent how much on... Sorry to say seems like 1/2of it is being torn up and full of CRAP right now, so why did we need to purchase that? We should have at least waited to see how much KC was tearing up and then only purchased the 1/2 that was left. Seems like everytime we turn around there is someone trying to put their hand down your pocket

The bean field was purchased for future lake dredging which for obvious reasons won't be done until the Barry Rd. corridor is done. The purchase had nothing to do with the construction going on.

There are new laws in place that will not allow us to dredge the way we have in the past. It was a pre-emptive move so that when we do dredge we can save money by not having to retrofit past practices to align with current laws.

Rest assured, we WILL have to dredge in the future. It's not a pipe dream.

When people come on this blog to complain or talk about one thing or another, it is nice to see a factual, non-combative answer like 3:03.
I don't like the fees and assessments either but the lake is not going to take care of itself.

The lake wont take care of itself is a reality

You are in the minority with your grasp of that reality and your willingness to accept the reality and need for assessments to pay for it

What is fact is too many people think "someone is trying to put their hand in your pocket"

Like the Government , garbage men, the gas company, the City the WLIC
