City Pays for Sewage Overflows

Jefferson City, MO - infoZine - The city of Lee’s Summit has agreed to pay nearly $60,000 as part of a settlement negotiated with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources related to a series of wastewater overflows during 2008 and 2009, the department announced today.

“This agreement holds Lee’s Summit accountable for wastewater overflows into Missouri ’s waters,” said Department of Natural Resources Director Mark N. Templeton.

The department considers discharges of wastewater from sanitary sewer collection systems to be potential threats to public health and the environment. Such discharges have the potential to contaminate lakes and streams, causing serious water quality problems.

How does KCMO get a pass, especially in regard to Weatherby Lake?

Interesting precedent. Might come in handy if we have to litigate.

Agreed. But do we really need a precedent from Lees Summit to do what's right, or just a mayor willing to do what's right? Our mayor and council seem to be impotent when it comes to standing up for WL.

Not fair to compare Lees Summit to KC, KC is slicker with the ability to sweet talk anybody into a deep sleep.
