Mary Hoy sent an email yesterday morning indicating Mike Henderson had passed away. Mike had been battling numerous health issues in recent years.
I don't know if he was a Weatherby Lake "icon" but he was surely a Weatherby Lake "character". He co-founded the WL Irish-American Club which hosted the annual St Patty's Day bash at the CC. The benefactor of the proceeds was the WL Police Department, quite a few items over the years were purchased for the PD.
He used his "I Like Mike" theme as his campaign slogan for WL mayor. He won by a narrow margin and had his share of ups and downs during his one term. We had our fair share of disagreements but did manage to come to middle ground on occasion.
According to Mary's email, services will be held at Pine Ridge Presbyterian this Friday at 5 PM followed by an Open House at the CC.
