EAGC Part 2

The recommendation from the EAGC to be considered by the BOA at the next meeting:

  • Construct monuments @ City Hall, Hillside & Forest
  • Total cost for the first sites=$129,878 ($103,586 City Hall, $13,146 each for Hillside & Forest)
  • Request bids for East Side/Barry.
The recommended "trigger" for construction start will be "$90K in the bank".  Jim Miller is "confident" there will be "$115K in the account, within 7 days of BOA approval of the project", meaning donors have already signaled their commitment for contributions.  Presumably this includes the $20,695 that currently resides in the EAGC account.

What in the hell would cost $103,000? Why are they spending so much at the City Hall monument?

This seriously has crossed my mind a few times during this whole sign fiasco - the proposed city hall sign goes along with Mayor Bos' appearances. Just like the house he lives in. Don't you think it makes someone (like a mayor) look good driving in to a place with a big fancy sign.
Or another thought -
Maybe the donors' intent has always been slated for a city hall sign. It's a "neutral" sign. Why would a donor on the Westside want to donate to the Eastside sign. And why Hillside and Forest? Maybe it's the rich donors making the decisions. If someone came to me asking for a donation, (they won't because I'm poor) I would probably agree as long as its a sign location is closest to me.

Yes, 8:31pm you are correct. Have been told that there will be two walls at City Hall, one on each side, so the donors will want to donate more.

7:37. Huh? Just because it's bigger I would want to donate more? Nonsense.

Thought it was a stupid idea to think the Mayor would want a sign for his personal "appearances". But then, companies spend thousands of dollars when an executive wants his/hers office remodeled. Not much difference.

This is the problem with the Eastside sign - City of WL literally squandered the majority of KC’s money. There could have been built a truly nice sign with KC’s money for Eastside. What we’re getting is over-the-top city hall sign(s) and the odd ball Hillside/Forest sign. So who’s going to pay for the Eastside sign? Donors? Unless Welch comes through (Laura Welch was on that email list and lives off Eastside), my guess there aren’t going to be anymore donors flocking to the city with money. Assumed they are tapped out. Eastside is the first and main street people come to when driving from the east on Barry road. If there was a true intent to present Weatherby Lake in all its glory through signs, that is the sign that should have been given top and grandiose priority. It’s a bunch of b******t to say they didn’t think construction would have been completed. Completed or not, fiscally responsible people would have set KC’s money aside until time came to build the sign.
So this is what the scenario is going to be. People will see the city hall signs and the Hillside/Forest sign. They’ll wonder what happen to Eastside. City Hall will give the story line that it’s in the next phase, drag it out a few years, and then have to figure out how to pay for it. Of course the present administration may not be in power and someone else will have to figure it out. Bottom line, the money for this sign is going to come out of every WL taxpayer pocket in some form or another.

11:33....you read my mind. I couldn't have said it any better. Your scenario is the only salient (and probably, most factual) outline that has been presented to the community thus far.

I suggest we all hang on to the names of the committee members so we can continue to hold them accountable as the years go by. You're right. The administration will change, so we'll have to hound the committee members for their extra pocket change to fund Eastside in the future.

I think it is safe to say taxpayer money will be sought to finish the fiasco...bets anyone? And that was the plan all along, they just won't admit it.

So interesting that the city website has taken down the only minutes ever published (from 2009), but NOTHING is posted from this latest round of recommendations from the EAG. Another demonstration of how they are all about transparency and getting the community involved. Craziness continues.
