Odds N Ends

The Funkhouser spectacle concerning his volunteer wife certainly removes him from active interest in the BRB project...too bad, he seemed to be the only KCMO official with any intentions of resolving the problem in a timely manner. The KCMO vetoed ordinance regarding volunteers will likely cause other cities to look at the role of volunteers...any impact here?

A sewage spill occurred on Brush Creek in Johnson County a little over a week ago, caused by a pump failure at a sewage pumping station and subsequent dumping of poop into Brush Creek. Attributed to volume of storm water. Is it coincidence that recent problems at U Cove pumping station have occurred during rain events? If storm water is getting into the system, where is it coming from...WL or KCMO...both?

WLIC is considering the acquisition of lake front property to add dock spaces? Good idea?

The Recycling Bin at the CC is getting immediate use, impressive. Today as you haul your trash to the street, take a look. How many cans/plastic/cardboard items are at the curb when they could be recycled? It's a habit, start today.

Does "acquisition" mean purchasing lakefront land/property for sale? Or, using easement of existing lake-front homeowners property?

Either way, i think a bad idea being we still don't have the bean field paid for, nor a clear idea of what's happening with the Peret Property.

I understand this was discussed at the last WLIC board meeting and the discussion was about acquiring a property, not using easement.

Joe Ennett, WLIC President would be able to discuss specifics.

I think it is a shame the way the WLIC keeps wanting to spend money they don't have. They constantly talk about not having enough for this and that. How about stop spending!!! How about having to have a majority of owners vote before doing anything that requires monies we do not already have on hand.

To Anonymous Sept 19 9:17am:
How about attending the WLIC monthly meetings and annual meeting to stay informed and voice your concern instead of staying in the comfort of your home and complaining? If you had attended any annual meetings you would know that the membership DID vote overwhelmingly to give the Board discretion in purchasing property. As I recall, the board wanted to bring purchases before the membership - the membership (i.e. those who cared to show up) voted that it wasn't necessary.
Stop complaining and get active. Or shut up.

Hmmm....i remember well the meeting when we gave the board that right. However it was VERY much couched around SELLING the Peret property. I.e., we were pitched that the board needed to be nimble to be able to make decisions quickly to secure a good price when it came up. I don't remember as much positioining around the ongoing purchasing of property -- outside of perhaps the Bean Field which was an issue already on the table. I'm quite confident that the membership's intention was NOT to give the board carte blanche to go buying properties for dock space.

I anon 9/19 9:17am have attended board meetings and it was not my understanding that WLIC was going to be allowed to continually purchase property or anything for that matter that we did not have money for. As stated by 9/20 11:41 I too was under the impression it was to be able to sell the Peret property. Not that this was going to be something the majority of us would live to regret. Not that we were going to not be able to trust that what we voted on in good faith would get to the out of control point it has. If we did not have enough dock space why has the WLIC been allowing members to attain 2nd dock spaces??? I believe we were told at a meeting everyhouse that wanted space had it and there were so many extras that was the purpose in allowing 2nd docks to the 2nd tier. How about instead of someone having to keep taking the WLIC back to court and it costing us (the members) court and attorney fees, the WLIC resolve the problem and relinquish what they feel is their "right" to spend our money without our approval. And yes it is "OUR" money and the fact that it is not monies already on hand makes it that much worse when we are given bills stating that we owe hundreds (close to $1000) for property they couldn't afford!!
