A program initiated by the Northland Mayors Council during the York administration is becoming a reality as Weatherby Lake "adopts" a 23 member Army contingent returning to the US/Fort Riley from Iraq on 1 October. The goal is to raise $2,300 to present gift cards to these returning heroes. A fund raising event will be held on Sunday, September 21st at Birmingham Park, beginning at 3PM. Food and drinks for purchase, raffles, music, games and VFW color guard.

Yes, the amount of money raised was $7,000! They had a target of $2,300 but due to the efforts of a very few people, they successfully raised $7,000.
