Deep Pockets

Hope you have em, because 2009 is shaping up to be a year when lots of folks are going to want a piece of your "rock". Just a few (amount divided by 700 households):

Fund Raisers
Monument Committee: Looking to raise $400,000 to replace entrance monuments to the City. KCMO has offered $50,000 to subsidize the cost of those involved in the Barry Road project...so that reduces the amount to $350,000. Your fair share $571

WL 75th Anniversary Commitee: Goal is $50,000 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the city in 2011. Your fair share $71.

Community Center Fundraiser: The CC is slated to lose money again in 2009. Mayor Bos mentioned the need for a fund raiser at last BOA. Amount needed, $6,000 to $8,000. Your fair share is $11.

Taxes:
Ambulance District=UP, City Property Tax (Levy) UP

Utilities
Water will go UP
Sewer will go UP

WLIC
Property Transfer Fee (new), Special Assessment, Bean Field, Annual Assessment Fee Increase

Not to mention all the rest, Boy/Girl Scouts, School fund raisers, Band Backers, sports fund raisers, etc. Hey buddy, can ya spare me a dime? (Well, that was before Star Bucks!)

Why dont we have a "bake sale"

We could sell cup cakes at our community center

That way we could raise enough money so those in our community who who dont want to pay taxes can continue to vote down funding for services the city provides.

Dont we all pay to much taxes?

Lets keep passing the hat!

Why should I have to pay for the things that I want that can be paid for by someone else?

Intriguing idea...maybe a quarterly citywide bake sale and flea market is in order?

Why does water keep going up around here?? Kansas City residents do not pay anything near what we do, even though the live right across the street from us?? This is a major concern here for some of our aging residents (as well as young) who are on fixed incomes and the cost of "NECESSITIES" is getting out of control!!

Couple of thoughts, make sure you are looking at water and not water and sewer when it comes to the bimonthly bill. We buy water from KCMO, basically as a 2nd tier customer, thus a higher charge. The folks across the street (Wildwood) are residents of KCMO and pay a lower rate. KCMO has already warned of increases for the forseeable future. Our water delivery system is owned and operated by us, the tower and pipes are ours to maintain and replace as necessary.

I do not recall the CC losing that tune of money when Linda Eckerly was in charge. Maybe we need to have Gwen doing it as part of her job the way it used to be. Seems we started losing the most money a few years ago when we started having outside people run it. Surprising since all we hear is how Ms. Payne has rentals the highest ever. If we took back the salary she gets it would put us back in the green. Linda used to show the CC and then it wasn't an "extra outside manager" getting paid, it was part of her salary. Why not put Ms. Paynes salary towards the Police budget, to help better pay for those who protect us. A previous post Mike mentioned Police salary in comparision to the part timers we hired here over the summer. Don't get me wrong the part timers did EXCELENT work and got a ton done. However our Police officers should be making more than that. We don't expect our city crew to risk thier lives, however our officers are potential targets everytime they pull someone over. Just something to think about
