Received a phone call last night with the news Weatherby Lake resident Jim Ballinger was killed in a car accident. His wife Gaye, was seriously injured as well. As of this post I have no further information, will update as necessary. If you receive updated information, please post a comment under this title.

Per forwarded email: Gaye was transported to St Luke's, serious injuries (numerous broken bones), none life threatening and none requiring surgery. Family members are tending to her as well as gathering for support. Our prayers are with both families.

We have lost a patriot. We pray that Gaye gets well fast. We pray that the family heals quickly from this tragedy.

Best Regards,

Brian Stevenson

I didn't know Jim very well. I do recall last year's Candidates Forum (he ran for East Ward alderman). He responses were short and direct, and I remember he drew the most chuckles from the crowd. My view was he wasn't afraid to say, "I don't know". Refreshing. I served with Jim on the Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA). After the last meeting we had a short chat and he made a comment I wanted to research further. I found the answer and decided I would get back to him "sometime". As life would have it, I waited too long. Jim, the answer is 5, maybe 10 at most.
RIP.
