I am not aware of any communication with residents. I am unaware of any communication with the community on financial budget issues (Community Center spend?), I do not know of any long range plannning initiatives led by Pat, her brother hit hard on the lack of long range planning during his campaign. Don't know about a grade, but if it were pass/fail, it would not be pass.

As I understand it, the $19,000 spent on the community center was not in the budget. Yet, Alderpersons White/Hoy seemed to want to debate the need for a police car that was in the budget. I'm not understanding their priorities. More of the community needs to attend monthly council meetings.

Why is "our" community center always an issue in this blog??? If I understand it correctly the additional monies spent on the center was extra income from the settlement. The negative comments on the additional spending, which was approved by the old board, should not be an individual blame of any one alderperson. I believe all four approved the spending!!! Do any of the people that are negative about the community EVER use the community center, fish frys, any meetings, fundraisers etc.? As for the police car the debate is, not if we need it, but it was decided to wait until either the 3rd or 4th quarter to make the decision on an unmarked or marked police car. The board KNOWS the money was budgeted.

Community Center

I for one am proud of the way the Community Center looks. It was beginning to look very drab and not rentable. Kudos to the volunteers that spent several hours repairing the walls, cleaning, and painting. At least some people are doing something more than complaining about what is going on in the city. More energy should be spent on volunteering instead of complaining. I for one don't care if it is a profit making building or not. Was the Community Center ever considered a profit maker?? At least there is a place at the Lake that is rentable at a decent price for local social functions. Do the complainers feel we should have let the building deteriorate and fall in disrepair??

I agree, the community center looks great. It wasn't in the budget but we had the money and I'm glad they spent it on it. But it is disturbing that some of the Council wanted to debate the need for the police car. According to the meeting, yes it was budgeted for later in the year but right now there is a car in the shop needing numerous repairs, plus we have the money. So why wait? It doesn't make good sense to spend a bunch of money on repairs and then go and buy a new car in a few months - only because it was budgeted for later in the year. Why does the budget need such strict adherence on some matters (police car) and no adherence at all on other matters (community center). They are both important. Let's stop the game playing.

The police cruiser was discussed at length in the budget meeting. It was hoped that the money wouldn't be needed until the third or fourth quarter, but sh-- happens. That's what the budget is for.
