Hold on to your wallet, big increases coming your way on sewer and more than likely water rates in 2009 and beyond...at least that is the impression I get from Jerry in his City News page in the Weatherby Lake Living January edition. Ironically at the same time the City holds hearings on an increase on sewer rates (Feb/March) they will consider dropping the meter fee of $5 per bill. You will recall this is the phantom charge for a purchase program that no longer exists. Get your money back? Nah, Jerry says it has been spent (interesting in that he mentions there was a $147,000 surplus in the Water Fund). Why would they wait until Feb/March? Might be a question to ask your alderman.
Engineering suggests we may need $300,000 over the next five years for sewer system upgrades and repairs. Do the math, one way or another, your bill in 09 and beyond is going up.
